iPad Service May Help Lower Malpractice Lawsuits Rates
An iPad subscription service that will hopefully reduce the risk for potential claims has been launched by Capson Physicians Insurance, according to an article in the Austin Business Journal.
Dubbed the CapsonCare program, the Austin-based company charges a monthly fee for an iPad with software that doctors can use to track patient data. The tool will be used to collect patient feedback through an electric poll after an office visit.
CapsonCare increases communication between doctors and their patients, by obtaining "meaningful and honest" feedback from patients, according to Kalyn Stelwagen, a patient operations manager for Austin Area Obstetrics, Gynecology and Fertility.
“With minimal interruption to our patients and the work flow in our office, CapsonCare is able to show our patients that their opinions matter and that our doctors and staff care about providing them with the most positive experience possible,” Stelwagen said.
The program is available as a stand-alone product or as a policy add-on for current customers.
A White House plan aimed at reducing medical malpractice lawsuits went into effect in June, according to the Wall Street Journal. The government is putting $25 million towards a slew of pilot projects, one of which is aimed at improving communication between doctors and patients.
