Road Conditions Can Affect Driver Safety
A recent survey may be a reminder to some people to drive extra carefully if the road they are on is not in particularly good condition.
The biannual motorist poll from the AAA Clubs of New Jersey found that motorists in the state are somewhat more likely to think that their local roads are in poor condition when compared to results from seven years ago. Fewer motorists were inclined to state that the condition of their local roads was good.
The poll also found drivers were less likely to feel that their overall commutes had improved in the past couple of years. AAA Clubs of New Jersey Chairman Fred Gruel noted that poorly maintained roads hit drivers "in their wallets" in the form of car repairs.
Road conditions are bound to differ from state to state, and improvements in infrastructure have generally been credited with helping to hold down the number of traffic fatalities in recent years.
While not every road is in optimal condition, last year's stimulus bill distributed billions of dollars to help fund highway and infrastructure improvements in all 50 states.
